John Wayne is Capt. Jake Cutter, a Texas Ranger out to destroy a powerful outlaw gang who is selling guns to the Indians.  At the same time he's also trying to bring in a gambler, Paul Regret, for murder.  Cutter unexpectedly comes across Regret and they form an unlikely friendship and Mr. Regret can't figure out which side of the law he wants to be on.
